Unlock the Secrets of Toe-Pick Mastery with Detailed Video Reviews

Updated: Sep 23

Reacting to my last post, I asked my Instagram audience if they were paying attention to the toe-pick.

And guess what?

They answered almost 100% positively.

One critical advancement in skating boots is introducing composite material, which enhances the ankle's lateral lock. This development significantly impacts a skater's technique and safety.

For instance, a skater equipped with a full-blade assist will execute a substantial twist of their entire body at the toe-pick part, demonstrating the effectiveness of this lateral lock.

In the picture below, we can better understand the issue.

Forces will not be appropriately distributed, as the ankle is locked. The following joint, the knee, can rotate slightly but cannot support this pressure. Of course, with the impact on the ice, the ankle will suffer damage, primarily in the long term, as the boot move is misused. The knee will not support this kind of stress for long.

At Perform'Live, details matter, which is our motto. It means that the jump technique must be effective from a young age. I often asked at which level we could use my video analysis services.

My answer is when the skater has mastered all his single jumps, including axel. Then, we can start preparing and optimizing his double and triple jumps technique.

I meet too many international skaters with old habits that are difficult to change. Instead, I should understand how they move and optimize their jump technique. The future is tomorrow. There is no need to rush. With significant foundations, an athlete is ready to perform, especially now with the ISU age regulation.
