Why using smart Big Data in sport?
Using smart big data analytics and metrics to make a better decision and improve performance
We are generating huge amounts of data. Data with a lot of information and a lot of noise. The ability to hear the signal from the noise is the key to unlock the human conversation that is taking place around us. Listening to this conversation can lead us to unexpected discoveries. How do you make use of all this data? Most people don't know what to do with all the data that they already have get big by starting small.
Big Data is not about the size of the data, it's about the value within the data.
Big data isn't big, if you know how to use it. We can call that smart Big Data. As coach, i record all data about my athletes. I plan my training sessions according the working period. I save the result of this work but I also evaluate the work attitude of my skater. I use an app for that. And what I like the most, is the fact that I can get a report ( week/ month/ annual) with presentation by chart. Really useful to get a global view.
Influencing coaching decision
This quote from Tony Robbins resumes perfectly the importance of each decision.
As coach, you need to make every day a decision. To decide how to apply your training plan for example, etc... Get a global picture of your atlete helps to make this decision. Collecting informations to collect informations without any point is a waste of time and energy.
You've got many applications of Big Data in sports industry as predictive insights into fan preferences. Analytics can advance the sports fans' experience as teams and ticket vendors with the at-home experience- the better way they know thei fans, the better way they can cater to them.
Data from wearable technologies
Data from wearable technology devices such as Apple Watch, GPS trackers and fitness trackers provides real-time stats on each skater, including speed, heart rate and acceleration. It's a fantastic tool for coaches and athletes. Such devices are helping in reducing athletes' injuries and also optimizing the training plan. This optimization is specially usefull for endurance sport like speed skating ( Long track).
